featuring Zalmen Mlotek with Susan Leviton
Thursday, June 10 7:30pm
Katz Theatre, JCC of Greater Pittsburgh

A celebration of the Jewish accent in American musical theater! From its origins in the wine cellars of Rumania to operetta arias, humorous vaudeville ballads, and backstage renditions of Fiddler on the Roof, Zalmen Mlotek uncovers Yiddish melodies in contemporary stage and film and transforms them into Gershwin, Berlin and Cab Calloway jazz numbers. Artistic Director of The National Yiddish Theater-Folksbiene, America's only Yiddish theater, Mlotek is an internationally recognized authority on Yiddish folk and theater music. Accompanied by vocalist Susan Leviton, this historically informed program features a slide show and English supertitles.
